On arrival at Oxford station you will find a useful information desk next to the exit which can provide you with a free map and other information about Oxford including brochures and accommodation. Oxford station is just a ten minute walk from the city centre but many tourists choose to pick up the Oxford sightseeing bus which stops at the station every 10 minutes and costs 12.50 GBP adult, 6.50 GBP child and allows you to hop on and off as you wish for 24 hours.

You can get to all parts of the country from Oxford train station, there are direct trains to London (Paddington Station), Reading, Birmingham and Manchester. There are frequent services to to the South West, (Bristol, Bath and Plymouth) from Reading that is just a 20 minute journey from oxford. For international train travel you can also book Eurostar tickets from London to Paris or Brussels online.

Train fares are more complicated than they need to be in the UK, and if you just turn up at the station without booking a ticket you are likely to pay more than double what you need too. To get the cheapest train fares it is better to book in advance and travel during non peak times. For example the single fare from London to Oxford can vary an amazing amount - between 4 and 36 GBP depending on whether you just turn up at the station or book online in advance.

Book Train Tickets

If you purchase your tickets online, you can either have them sent to you or collect them from the automated ticket machines at Oxford station, just remember to bring the credit or debit card you booked them with to the station.

There is a free short stay and drop off parking area located within the main station, that can be accessed from the station entrance on Park End Street. The main long stay paid parking is located on the opposite side of Botley road from the main station. The entrance and exit to the main car park is located on Becket Street, beware of the one way system, Becket Street is accessed from Hollybush Row. There are 490 spaces, parking is controlled by APCOA, they operate telephone parking system for all rail users, this is simple and easy to use once you get the hang of it. Simply park your car then proceed to the station. Railway commuters can park all day for £6.50 if they use the telephone payment system. Once you get onto platform 1 look to your right, there is digital board displaying a number, you will need this number to pay for your parking. Under the digtial display there is a poster explaining what you need to do to pay for parking. All you need to do is phone Apcoa and make a credit card payment for parking, the first time you use this system you will have to answer several questions, car make, colour, registration and credit or debit card details. The next time you use the parking system it will remember your details. Simple and easy to use once you know how. You can also register with APCOA before you travel.

There are a selection of shops within the station, including Marks & Spencers, News Paper shop, Coffee shop, Tourist Information Centre and a couple of cash machines.

The station has a large seated area in the main station and a waiting room on platform 2, toilets are located in the the main area of the station and on platform 2.

Outside the front of the station are some cycle racks, a Taxi rank, several bus stops and the main Oxford bus station (Gloucester Green) is only a 5 minute walk away.
